Kevin J. Ryan is a journalist and author who has written and edited for publications including the Wall Street JournalESPN The MagazineInc., Fast Company, CNBC, and Quartz. He spent eight years reporting on entrepreneurship and tech startups at Inc. magazine, where he also hosted the Inc. Uncensored podcast. His education coverage for the Long Island Press during the Great Recession was awarded first place in its category by the New York Press Association.

Kevin’s book Ahead of the Game: The Unlikely Rise of a Detroit Kid Who Forever Changed the Esports Industry—about entrepreneur Delane Parnell, his incredible path from poverty to building a several-hundred-million-dollar gaming company, and the burgeoning world of high school esports—was published by HarperCollins Leadership in 2022. During his career, Kevin has interviewed entrepreneurs and athletes such as Daymond John, Katy Perry, Steve Young, Anne Wojcicki, Blake Griffin, Maria Sharapova, Steve Case, and Dwyane Wade, and reporting in depth on companies like Tesla, Uber, Amazon, Apple, SpaceX, Airbnb, Warby Parker, Beyond Meat, and Peloton. He received his bachelor’s degree in psychology and education from Boston College and his master’s in journalism from the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute at New York University. He lives in Queens with his wife Abbie, their son, and their dog Flutie.
